Teaching the piano: from dream to reality

Éric Monin began playing the piano at the age of 8. His piano teacher quickly recognised his great potential: after 6 months of lessons, she entered him for a public competition, in which he won the first runner-up medal. At the same time, he took music theory lessons at the conservatory.

Unfortunately, he had to stop after a few years to concentrate on his studies and his second dream: to become a vet. While continuing to decipher new scores every day and progressing in piano technique as a self-taught musician, he obtained his doctorate.

After 15 years as a vet, he decided to enrol at the University of Geneva to study Arts, specialising in History and Musicology. At the same time, he took harmony and counterpoint classes at the Haute École de Musique.

After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in musicology, he began composing pieces for the piano (see video below), then pieces for orchestra. He also wrote a novel, L’Hymne de Vérité, which he likens to a ‘literary symphony’: he composed the entire score for orchestra (excerpts here).

In 2025, he decided to realise his very first dream: to teach piano and music theory by creating the brand ‘Vet au piano’ in order to share his passion for music with students who want to learn this unique and essential art form.
